Review - Seventeen Doll'd Up Mascara

Wednesday 13 February 2013

My favourite mascara (Max Factor Masterpiece Max - a firm favourite that I've repurchased 3/4 times) had recently run out and feeling a bit cheap, I decided to have a look for a bit of a more purse-friendly alternative.
That's where Seventeen's Doll'd Up Mascara makes its entrance. It makes the bold claims of being able to adorn your face with a set of doll-like lashes to create a beautiful overstated wide eyed look that lasts for up to 24 hours.

I find the packaging really cute and feminine and I like the simple colour scheme of black, red & white. It kind of reminds me of Minnie Mouse especially with the little bow logo. I find that it's contoured nicely to fit in your hand as well and I don't know why but this pleases me.

My verdict? I love it. The mascara applies smoothly & clump free and you can apply as many coats as you like without finding your eyes in spider-leg territory. It has a plastic curved brush that picks up just the right amount of product to distribute onto your lashes evenly. I personally prefer these types of brushes and find bristle brushes just don't do what I want them to do to my lashes. I find that it works really well at grabbing every single one and flicking out lashes you didn't even know you had!

I have long but straight eyelashes so I would be lost without my eyelash curler, however I found that once I'd curled my eyelashes once in the morning, there was no drooping and the mascara did not smudge on either the top or bottom of my eye. I even went as far as to test it's true longevity and slept in it. By accident - whoops. I woke up with it still perfectly applied and my eyelashes still holding their curl!
Overall I think this mascara is amazing - if you're not looking for immense volume. I prefer my eyelashes to stand out in a fairly natural way - if applying coats of mascara can be deemed "natural". You get my drift. It does what it says on the packaging and really, what more can you ask for? I think it may have knocked my beloved Max Factor off it's top spot.

It's currently in Boots on offer for £5.29 RRP £6.29 and that includes a free Seventeen 3 Way Eyeliner which is also new to the range and also impressively long-lasting. I'll probably pop up a review on this in the next few days.

  1. I've heard 17 Peep Show is meant to be quite good too. I've been wanting to buy it for ages, but every time I'm in Boots I end up buying something different.

Lovely blog by the way, I'm following.
