I ♥ Drugstore Makeup Tag

Wednesday 6 November 2013

I didn't blog yesterday because I came down with an evil cold type virus, I went from feeling like fine to hideous within a couple of hours and had to spend the evening snuggled up on the sofa with about 10 layers on. I'm feeling a bit better today though so on with day 6 of #bedn!
I am highly partial to a little bit of drugstore/high street makeup, it's definitely upped it's game in the past few years and you can find great quality products on par with high end and sometimes even better. I spotted this tag on Stacey's blog and thought I'd pop it on mine too.

1. What is your favorite drugstore makeup brand overall?
I think I'd have to go for Bourjois as my favourite at the moment. I'd say most of my drugstore products are by them ranging from eyeliners, lip products to powders and I love them all. They are a little on the pricier side for drugstore makeup but they're still cheaper than high end and great quality. I do love Rimmel as well though but mainly for lips and nails.

2. What are your favorite face, cheek, eye and lip products?
My Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum, Matte primer, Java Rice Powder Bourjois Cream blush (shades 1&3) and Rimmel Kate lipsticks. I have also been impressed with Revlon's lip butters and I love Maybelline's 24h Color Tattoo cream shadows.

3. Least favorite product?
This is a tricky one actually... I tend to read a LOT of reviews before I make a purchase so I don't waste money and then swatch in store so I'm not often disappointed. If I had to pick one off the top of my head, it would be Rimmel Apocalips as they just really didn't live up to the hype for me. They felt slimy on my lips and also the gloss faded super quick and left me with an uneven stain. I have the shade Celestial and it looks pretty until I put it on my lips and it is too mauve on me for my liking.

4. What is the best makeup bargain?
I'm a big fan of Rimmels nail varnishes, the 60 second range is brilliant, I think they cost £2.99 but you can often get them cheaper or on 3 for 2 and they have a vast selection of colours and they are really great for changing colours throughout the year without spending a fortune. I find them quick drying, non streaky and long lasting. The Rimmel Kate lipsticks are a pretty good bargain too between £5-5.50 and lovely, pigmented colours.

5. What is your favorite underdog product? (Something you love that often gets overlooked?)
I don't hear too much hype over my all time favourite eye liner, Bourjois Kohl and Contour Shadow and Light, it's so creamy and pigmented and lasts well on your waterline, I use it virtually every day.

6. A drugstore product that is overpriced?
I think Revlon nail varnishes are one that spring to mind, I grabbed two on offer for £2 off making them £4.50 instead of £6.50 and I have been impressed with them but I wouldn't buy them at full price. I also think that a lot of L'Oreal's range is overpriced, they NEVER reduce their mascaras and they have some above £10 which is the maximum I'll pay for a drugstore mascara.

7. Show your best drugstore dupe(s)
I think the most obvious ones are all of the Clinique chubby stick dupes such as Bourjois Colour Boost and Revlon's Balm Stains.

8. Drugstore product that isn't worth the hype?
Maybelline Baby Lips, they're just a basic lip balm in pretty packaging without any real deep moisturising properties, I love my Burts Bees balm, it's unbeatable and only £3.49 at Boots!

  1. How did I forget to mention Maybelline Colour tattoos! Agree with you about Revlon nail polishes, all of mine were found either in Poundland or Fragrance Direct, as much as I love them I'd never buy them at full price. I kind of see what you mean about the darker Apocalips, I still like them but find the lighter shades so much better and easier to wear, give Luna a try I bet you'll change your mind on them :) Loved reading your answers! xx
