Blog Update & Latest In Beauty - The Glamour Beauty Edit

Wednesday, 1 January 2014

I've been a bit absent on the blogging front recently; I couldn't find any enthusiasm to take photos in the dull winter days and then it became Christmas time and I didn't realise how little I'd posted!
Anyway, after some deliberation, I decided to change my blog name and url to Blushing Rose. I really wasn't happy with my old blog name, I ended up picking it as there was nothing else I could think of at the time and it was one name that wasn't already taken.
I hope you like my new name, let me know what you think! I guess it's a good a time as any to have a bit of a change what with it being New Year and all. I'm currently in the process of reworking my layout but it's rather time consuming.
Now, onto the good stuff...

As soon as I saw this little box pop up in November, I knew it had to be mine. I decided to ask for it for Christmas and couldn't wait until Christmas Day to get my hands on it. The main reason I wanted the box was for the HD Brows Palette. I already have one that I got in a Glossybox many moons ago but it's running on empty and I couldn't pass up the chance to get it within a beauty box for less than it's RRP of £19.95.

I'll start with the packaging. It's just lovely, I find the black and gold makes it seem really sophisticated and then once you take the lid off, all of the contents are wrapped within a layer of gold flecked tissue paper. I couldn't wait to use it so the Baby Lips is missing it's original cardboard packaging but everything else is as shown.

The Contents

HD Brows Palette
As mentioned above, this was my main reason for wanting the box. This has been my go to product for the past 2.5 years for my brows and I absolutely love it - I'm actually surprised I haven't reviewed it on here before, expect a full one in the near future. I only tend to use the bottom right shade but it's the perfect match for me and the little brush is actually really handy and works well with the powder.

Maybelline Baby Lips in Hydrate
I wasn't particularly excited about getting a Baby Lips, despite never trying one before this box I felt that they were really over-hyped and gained the opinion that they weren't really worth bothering with. When I tried the balm I was really pleasantly surprised and I've been using it daily since Christmas, I actually love it! Hydrate is a clear balm with a fruity scent that I really like and although I wouldn't say that it was as moisturising as my Burts Bees, it does provide a nice glossy finish to my lips and does keep them hydrated as long as they're not really chapped. I even want to add more Baby Lips to my collection!

Eyeko Lash Curler
I already own a pair of eyelash curlers that I really like (MAC Full Lash Curlers) so I wasn't too hopeful about these. I've only used them a couple of times but I haven't been that impressed by them so far. I really don't like the velvet handles but that's just a pet peeve of mine. They don't seem to fit close enough to my eye to curl my lashes fully and I end up with a weak curl that doesn't really enhance my eyes as much as I'd like. They do come with 2 refill pads which is handy, I may snaffle them for my other curlers.

Toni & Guy Glamour Firm Hold Hairspray
I used this when I curled my hair for Christmas, there's not really too much to say about it. It has a pleasant fragrance and it didn't leave my hair sticky or crispy after I'd sprayed it in. I didn't really find that it kept my curls in place but I'm going to give it a few more tries with different styles and see how it goes!

Philip Kingsley One More Day
You can never really have too many dry shampoos - well, not if you only wash your hair a couple of times a week like me. I have never really been a fan of Batiste, it leaves me with an itchy, grey scalp, not a good look when you've forgotten to rub it into the back of your head. One More Day feels light and cooling when sprayed in and doesn't leave any white residue - bonus. It helped to perk my hair up and felt like it actually did keep the grease at bay rather than just masking it.

Balance Me Extra Care Radiance Face Oil
This was another product I was excited to receive - even though it's a small version I just love the rollerball and I think it will last me quite a while - a little goes a long way. I apply this to my face at night where I usually get dry patches and then massage it in with my fingers. It feels very light on the skin and doesn't leave you feeling greasy or oily, it sinks into your skin within about ten minutes and it hasn't caused me any breakouts. It's been leaving my skin looking a lot more hydrated and helping to eradicate the effects that the winter weather has on my skin.

Overall, I'm really pleased with this box - I have only had a handful of beauty boxes in the past and I've cancelled my subscription fairly quickly as they seem to be great one month and then rubbish the next. I liked the fact that you could see all the products you would receive before you ordered and everyone gets the same. I think there are a couple of different shades of Baby Lips going out but other than that, everyone receives the same which means you don't feel disappointed when you open yours.
I'll definitely be looking at the future boxes by Latest In Beauty. Unfortunately, all of the boxes have sold out now but if you're interested there's a chance to win one of 5 boxes here.

Did you get this box? What do you think of beauty boxes in general?

  3. I love your new blog name! It's really pretty :) I really wanted this box, but I kicked myself as I bought the HD Brow palette a month before seeing this, which cost me £21 for that ALONE! Gutted I could have got loads for a cheaper price xx
