I have featured the Collection Eyeshadow Pencils in a couple of my posts now so I thought it was about time to post in a little more detail.
I noticed they were on offer in Boots and that was more than enough of a reason for me to make a purchase, so I swatched all the shades and decided upon a light pink champagne shade called Vintage Blush and a rich brown shade called Hot Chocolate.
They also had a pretty light white shade but I decided it was a bit too similar to MAC's Nylon which I already have so decided to leave it on the shelf.
The pencils are soft, creamy and well pigmented. Upon application, I find that both apply extremely smoothly with no tugging or pulling on my eyelid and give off great colour with just a quick swipe. I've found that although they are blendable, you really need to work quickly with them, especially Hot Chocolate as they dry to a non budge finish in no time.
I've found the best way to apply Hot Chocolate is to work from my lash line upwards so that I can blend it into my crease as otherwise it just looks a bit messy. However, when done right it looks lovely and makes for a perfect subtle smokey eye that lasts all day with no creasing or smudging.
Vintage Blush is a little more generous with its drying time and I can apply it all over my lid before I need to blend it. I usually give it two swipes, the first one as a base and blended out and then the second to add the shimmer back onto my lid. This works so well for a really natural eye shadow but I've also used it as a highlight beneath my brow bone and in the inner corners of my eyes.
The packaging is pretty much as you'd expect for an eye shadow pencil, it comes with a clear plastic lid which feels secure for travelling but you will need a sharpener as they aren't wind up. This isn't particularly an inconvenience as they don't run down quickly.
As for removal, although they will stay put all day they aren't a problem to remove at night, a couple of swipes of eye makeup remover (not even a waterproof one!) and it's gone without a trace left on your eyelids.
Overall, they're a great little purchase for on the go or when you are in a rush in the morning as they seriously do not budge on me and I don't use my eyeshadow primer before applying them either. I'd quite like to see a few more shades added to the line as the others are on the blue spectrum and some plum/green/gold certainly wouldn't go amiss with Autumn just around the corner!

DeleteYou're welcome!
ReplyDeleteVintage Blush is so pretty! I bet you could probably use it as a base too since they seem like they're a little tacky.
