Review | Bio-Oil

Monday 15 April 2013

With only a few weeks to go until my due date, my bump is growing and changing every day. This means that I've been slathering myself in as many lotions and potions as possible in the hope of trying to prevent stretch marks; so far, I've been lucky.

However, when I was a teen, I gained quite a lot of stretch marks on my hips and also on my boobs. I felt extremely uncomfortable about them and was always pulling at my clothes and feeling really self conscious in case I accidentally exposed them.

After searching around for something to help get rid of them, I came across Bio-Oil. I applied it religiously twice a day, once in the morning and once at night to my problem areas and within 3 months, the stretch marks on my boobs had completely faded - only to look vaguely white in bright light. The marks on my hips faded from a dark red to a light white, again nowhere near as noticeable as before. I was absolutely thrilled with the results as it enabled me to wear so many more clothes that I'd been avoiding previously and gave me a lot more confidence.

Bio-Oil, (as you may have guessed by the name) is a lightweight oil and this makes it great for applying before you start your day or just before bed at night as it absorbs into your skin really quickly. Give it 5 minutes and it will have soaked into your skin without leaving any greasy residue. It also combines some vitamin A and E with Calendula, Lavender, Rosemary and Chamomile oils, all of which are great for sorting out a range of skin ailments.

I've also found Bio-Oil to be brilliant at helping out with dry skin - I have used it a few times when I've had dry patches on my face/legs and the initial application helps any product you apply go on a lot smoother (fake tan or foundation) and a few more helps dissipate the patch completely.
As for scent, it has a very light hint of lavender to it, it's not overpowering nor do I find it unpleasant and it doesn't linger on the skin.

I'm now currently applying it in conjunction with a cocoa butter moisturiser on my hips, boobs and belly to try and keep the pesky stretch marks away and also on a couple of scars I've gained since I last used it. I've only had it a few days so I'm not expecting to see any immediate results but I'm hoping that it will work it's magic again and keep my belly nice and smooth and fade away the minor scars I'm applying it on.

Bio-Oil are launching a campaign called "Skin Stories" on 22nd April in a bid to improve skin and body confidence in time for summer. It will help raise money for 3 charities; Look Good Feel Better a cancer support charity, the Iolanthe Midwifery Trust and The British Skin Foundation, pop on over to their facebook page if you're interested in sharing your story - for every story shared, £1 will be donated to one of the charities.

Bio-Oil can be found at all of your local supermarkets, Boots & Superdrug. I have the 60 ml version which retails for £8.99 (and also lasts for ages, a little goes a long way!) but it can also be purchased in 125 ml size for £14.99 and 200 ml for £19.99.

I was sent this item for review, however all opinions are my own.

    1. I wish I'd used it earlier as I'd done so well with no stretch marks up until this week when they sprouted all around my belly button, nooo! I'm slathering it on daily now to prevent and hopefully try and reverse some of the damage! x
